Welcome to MyNeurodiverseFamily

Parenting together | without judgment

My name is Kate

Your standard average "run of the mill" kind of mum.

A mum of two girls (one grown up and one just starting secondary school) who is on a mission to help bring change for struggling families who have found themselves, or are just finding themselves, in a similar situation to ours.  That is, families with children who are either diagnosed as, or suspected as, being neurodivergent. Families where neurodivergent children are finding daily life overwhelming, whose behaviour is affecting the whole family but the parents/guardians aren't quite sure how to take steps to make things better.  My husband and I were there, six years ago, totally lost in a chaos that had no name and no context - just a fair dose of despair and confusion - and wow can it be lonely!  I don't have any professional degree in this field but I do have years of experience and self-taught strategies that I want to share because I strongly believe that a parent who has been there and done it is a lot more likely to have some half decent advice than one who hasn't!

This blog actually came about for a very particular reason. Click on my “About” page to read why…

My blog contains a number of specific articles dedicated to particular problem areas. The articles hold real life stories from my lived experiences with both of my daughters. Each article follows up with what I have learned and how I implemented that knowledge into something tangible, which I really hope it is going to offer other parents some strategies where they may be struggling to make positive change.

If nothing else, I hope the stories provide some entertainment, light relief and will be something that resonates with many parents in a similar minefield!

As new blogs are posted, they will be added below
